Ceramics Gallery “de Engel”

Since 1990 I have been continually involved with the creation of ceramic figurines.

At college I discovered a love for creation and creativity in Art class.

After first having worked on abstract and impressionist paintings and pottery thereafter,  I soon discovered a real love and passion for creating clay figurines and statues.

What started off as a once a week course and attending the occasional workshop developed into a daily activity of making, firing and the glazing of my artwork.

Throughout the year I exhibit my figurines in a number of galleries in Holland and especially during Spring and Summer you will find me at most Art and Ceramics Fairs.

The determination of shape, design, expression and use of colour is an absolute organic process and my figurines are born entirely out of instinct. I do not sketch, or design anything before starting on my figurines. I feel a great passion in working with clay. I especially enjoy the organic moulding processes and am always in search of new techniques and materials.

In Glazing methods my preference goes out to Raku – Firing. As a child I loved the basic 4 elements; fire, earth,  air & water. This, I feel, all comes together in the Raku Firing process.

My biggest source for inspiration is nature itself. In the Summer of  2003 my partner Henk Engel Bosschers (hence the name “de Engel” which means Angel) and I moved to an old farmhouse in Witharen. The village of Witharen is to be found between the towns of Ommen & Balkbrug in the East of Holland and lies exactly in between the Vecht and Reest Valleys.

Real inspirational surroundings. My exhibition space is currently in one of my annexes for which a refurbishment is planned in 2008.

A warm welcome awaits you if you are interested in visiting my gallery. Please email or telephone me to make a suitable appointment or if you are interested in acquiring any of my artwork.
